Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *A short lived smile played across her lips when Rachel mentioned having a copy of her class schedule and it managed to survive long enough to see the other side or her friend's follow-up question but the sound of the yawn, faint as it may have been over the phone, brought a worried frown back to her face.*
  • Quinn: Always. Eight work for you? Or would you prefer something earlier?
  • Rachel: Eight is perfect for me. *Her eyes stayed closed as she spoke to Quinn, the soft sound of her friend's voice slowly putting her to sleep* I can't wait, Quinn.

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *to hear anything less than her friend's usual hundred and ten percent was disquieting on its own, added to what little she'd gleamed from the rest of their conversation and the weary edge to the Rachel's voice only served to elevate her concern another notch.*
  • Quinn: I do. *she licked her lips again, took a slow, soft breath. She still wasn't ready to push, but she could at least make sure that Rachel knew that whatever was going on, she didn't have to go through it alone.* And you know that you can talk to me about anything, anytime. Even if I'm in the middle of a class... because you're not a hindrance, Rachel, you're a friend. My friend.
  • Rachel: *Her lips tugged down into a frown* I know your class schedule, it's written in my planner for the purpose of not interfering with your classes, but yes, Quinn... I know you are just a phone call away should I need you. *She rolled over in bed, huffing as her comforter covered her face* Are you available on Thursday night for an impromptu Skype call?
  • Rachel: *Although she had Quinn's class schedule in her planner, she didn't have her coursework in there, so she hoped she wasn't interfering with an important paper or something of the sort. She did, however, know that talking to Quinn was probably the only thing to help her get through this ordeal, especially now. Rachel yawned as she waited and listened to Quinn's response, her eyes slipping closed for a moment*

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *The corners of her mouth pulled upwards, but only slightly. The happy contentedness she felt from Rachel's words, something the brunette seemed particularly apt at bringing out in her, still overpowered by her concern for her friend. She considered pressing Rachel for details again but quickly dismissed the idea for the same reasons as before. Whatever it was, she would just have to trust that Rachel would tell her in her own time. But that didn't stop a flare of guilt that she wasn't doing enough or the thought that if their situations were reversed Rachel would do whatever it took to get Quinn to confess what was really bothering her.*
  • Quinn: I wasn't that helpful, You got through last semester because you are incredibly talented and incredibly strong willed. If anything you helped me deal with my first semester by giving me a reason to put down my books every once in a while.
  • Rachel: Quinn, stop that. *Her words didn't come out as stern as they normally would. She was more tired than anything and Rachel was afraid that came across in her tone.* I would feel unbelievable guilty if I hindered your studies in any way. We all have priorities and your education is number one, as it should be. I never want you to sacrifice your schoolwork for me, do you understand me?

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *She sat back in her seat. The nagging sensation that there was more going on with her friend then it appeared creeping back from its earlier dismissal when she heard the crack in Rachel's voice. Her lips parted to make way for a demand for the truth only to be blocked off when she closed her mouth. Whatever it was Rachel wasn't telling her, badgering her over the phone wouldn't help and after the last two days of not hearing from her friend, she didn't want to risk driving Rachel away for another two, or worse, even longer.*
  • Quinn: Umm, yeah. We can drop it. I'm sure you'll figure it out, you always do. *She caught her lower lip between her teeth as she debated whether or not to add a reminder that Rachel could always ask her for help if she needed to.* Rachel... just let me know when you've got the time and we'll sort out the details then, okay?
  • Rachel: *From the silence on the other end of the line, she knew that Quinn knew there was something wrong. The girl was always so in tune with Rachel's actions, knowing what each little word could possibly mean. Most of the time it was a good thing as Quinn would always know when Rachel was in a horrid mood and needed to talk. This time, however, it was the worst thing.*
  • Rachel: Of course, Quinn. You know I can't go a whole month without seeing you twice. *She let out a soft chuckle, which was supposed to be a much heartier laugh* Our visits back and forth were the only way I was able to get through last semester, I doubt I can get through this one without them.

Bound to Get Burned || SelfPara

Yesterday had been the very first day of classes Rachel had missed. Normally punctual, she knew that her professors would notice. One in particular, of course. Just the thought of him sent shivers down her spine, the minimal contents of her stomach churning and threatening to make themselves reappear. Nothing could have made her go back to that school; nothing. But she needed to. After spending the weekend curled up in bed only moving to eat something when her stomach sounded like it was trying to eat its way out of her body, Rachel knew that she couldn’t stay there forever.

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *Her brow furrowed again, her free hand dropping to her lap as she sat forward in her seat. The Rachel Berry she knew was not the sort to fail at anything, not without more of a mention then the aborted one she'd just heard.*
  • Quinn: Rachel, of course. Whatever you need. I know how important your training is. *she lowered her voice, her head tilting forward conspiratorially* But what was that about you failing a class? Is that why you were hiding from me? Because if it was you should know that you didn't have to. Getting a few bad marks isn't the end of the world. Maybe you could talk to your teacher about, I don't know, a make up project or private tutoring or something?
  • Rachel: *Although she hated lying, Rachel saw it as a way out of a long, exhausting explanation. She let out what she hoped to be a believable sigh.* You know how I am when it comes to grades. I was...ashamed. *The reality of that statement caused tears to spring to her eyes* I'd really rather not talk to him or about this subject. Can we please drop it? *She was unaware of the way her voice cracked when she asked the question, focusing only on listening to Quinn's voice so her mind wouldn't wander to the haunting memories of Friday evening*

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *She'd tried very hard to put her 'Lucy' past behind her -- even after the truth had slipped out -- and if anyone else had brought it up her reaction would have been far less jovial. But Rachel was different. For one, if anyone had earned it, Rachel had. For another, on Rachel's lips 'Lucy' wasn't a painful reminder of an unfortunate and inescapable part of her past, it was open acceptance of who she was, the good and the bad. Her smile grew as a soft laugh escaped her mouth.*
  • Quinn: I can't imagine. *Her free hand started to toy with her hair* So does that mean we're still on for your visit? Or are you going to spend more time with your phone stealing friend and you've just been lying to me to make me feel better?
  • Rachel: *The sound of Quinn's laugh made her feel better about having brought up the name Lucy. She hadn't meant to, it just happened as it did every so often when she was desperate to convey something to Quinn or to have the girl listen to her. Or when she wanted to appear innocent, and boy was she good at that. The smile on her face faltered a bit, making her glad that Quinn couldn't see her face.*
  • Rachel: My visit... *Her voice trailed off as she struggled to remember whose turn it was to go to the other's new home* I think we should postpone it, Quinn. I...I'm just really busy with my classes. Apparently I'm failing one- *She broke off quickly, swallowing back the tears that were sure to rush forward at any moment* Perhaps we can just postpone it? I promise I'm not spending time with any other friends, just school.

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *Her forehead wrinkled as she listened to Rachel. Something about her friend's words felt off and she left Rachel's question hanging unanswered for several seconds as she tried to pin down what before she decided it was just her lingering worry from the last two days.*
  • Quinn: Rach, *she paused, then took a short breath. A half smile curling her lips* Just tell me I'm still your favourite and all is forgiven.
  • Rachel: *Despite her ultra crappy mood the last few days, Rachel's lips quirked up into a shadow of her signature smile* You, Lucy Quinn Fabray, are still my favorite. How could I possibly find a friend better than you? *She ignored the pang she felt through her when she uttered the question. Although she truly appreciated Quinn, she knew that she was being a horrible friend in not telling her the truth*

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *The sound of the breath Rachel took before she spoke stirred up the mixed emotions she'd been trying to keep in check over the last 48 hours and it took her additional effort to wait through even the small gap between breath and speech before speaking herself. Effort she had to expend again as she swallowed the first, sarcastic, reply that reached her lips.*
  • Quinn: Why don't you start with what happened and we'll worry about who owes who and apology after. What happened?
  • Rachel: Nothing happened. *Realizing she answered too quickly, she took a moment to gather her thoughts* I went to a friend's Friday night and forgot my phone at her place. I haven't seen her until today. I apologize for not finding a way to contact you, I've just been... busy.
  • Rachel: *She hated lying, absolutely hated it, especially to Quinn. Her friend, best friend even, didn't deserve it. But there was no way she could tell the truth. Nothing good would come of it. So, instead of blurting out what really happened, she took a small, shaky breath and pulled her covers up to her chin, speaking softly.* I'm sorry, Quinn. Forgive me?

Apologies || Phone Call

  • Quinn: *Two days was, while not the longest they'd every gone without a message, a rare enough duration that it was hard to ignore. Even more so since the silence this time originated on Rachel's end of the line. She wasn't sure if she should be more angry or concerned. She was even less sure which she was. Not that there was much more she could do either way. She didn't want to worry Rachel's Father's on the off chance it was nothing so calling them to find out what had happened wasn't an option and sending Rachel any more texts for her not to reply to wouldn't help either. Short of showing up at Rachel's apartment there really wasn't anything else she could do except wait. Wait... and hope for the best. Which oddly enough would probably tip the scales towards angry. Maybe a walk would help, at the very least a little fresh air couldn't hur- The phone was pressed against her cheek almost before her thumb could finish the gesture to accept the incoming call.*
  • Quinn: Hello? Rachel?
  • Rachel: *The sound of Quinn's voice immediately made her feel guilty. She closed her eyes tightly and took a deep, shaky breath in an attempt to steady herself. She needed to sound normal.*
  • Rachel: Yes, it's me. Hello, Quinn. *She paused for a moment* I believe some apologies are in order on my part.
